Port Kennedy callouts we see most
Port Kennedy mixes newer housing estates with a strip of light industry, so the jobs vary. On the residential side it’s the familiar list of flat batteries, cars that won’t turn over on a cold morning and vehicles that need breakdown towing to a mechanic. Tradies’ utes in the light industrial streets add another layer.
The coast draws plenty of visitors too. Becher Point and the beaches either side are popular with anglers, and their cars sometimes sit for hours in sandy car parks before refusing to start. Because the beaches here are closed to vehicles, we’re more often jump-starting or towing from the car park than dragging anything off the sand.
Then there’s Ennis Avenue. It carries Highway 1 traffic between Rockingham and Mandurah, and a breakdown at speed on a road with few intersections is a stressful place to be.
Roads and places we cover around Port Kennedy
Warnbro Sound Avenue runs through the middle of the suburb, carrying local traffic north to Warnbro and south to Secret Harbour. Halliburton Drive marks the boundary with Warnbro, and Port Kennedy Drive connects the coastal estates east to Ennis Avenue.
On the eastern side, Lake Walyungup and the wetlands of the Port Kennedy Scientific Park belong to the Rockingham Lakes Regional Park, so some streets back onto bushland with limited turning room. Beyond Ennis Avenue lies Baldivis, where Safety Bay Road gives access to the Kwinana Freeway.
Broken down in Port Kennedy? A few tips
- In a beach car park, note the access path number or the nearest street so we don’t search the wrong one.
- If you’re on a narrow crescent that backs onto reserve land, tell us how much room there is to turn a truck.
- On Ennis Avenue, stay out of the car if you can’t get off the road safely, and keep your belt on.
- For a work ute full of gear, mention the load so we bring a suitable tilt tray.
