Bickley callouts: hills, orchards and steep blocks
Bickley is about as rural as Perth gets while still being in the metro area. With only a few hundred residents, most of our callouts come from private properties, the wineries and orchards in the valley, or visitors heading to the Perth Observatory on Walnut Road. Steep driveways and loose gravel catch out plenty of cars, especially two-wheel-drives with worn tyres.
Farm utes, older 4WDs and orchard vehicles also break down on the property itself. In winter, soft paddocks and muddy tracks lead to bogged vehicles, and a winch recovery is often needed before the tow can even begin.
The roads and places we know around Bickley
Welshpool Road East is the main way in and out, linking Bickley with Lesmurdie and down the scarp to the flats. Aldersyde Road and Walnut Road wind through the valley past vineyards and the observatory, while Hardinge Road is reached off Welshpool Road East. Kalamunda is a short drive away, and Bickley Reservoir is just over the boundary in Orange Grove.
Hills roads are narrow and often have no shoulder, so we plan the pickup carefully. Our breakdown towing trucks are used to tight turning circles and sharp bends.
