Towing in Kalamunda: the usual callouts
Kalamunda sits about 300 metres up on the Darling Scarp, with a busy little town centre surrounded by bush, orchards and big residential blocks. In town, our jobs look a lot like any suburban shopping strip: flat batteries in the car parks off Haynes Street, starter motors that give up outside the bus station, and cars that need to go to a mechanic on short notice.
Get beyond the shops and the work changes quickly. East and south of town, the roads wind through orchard country and state forest, and some driveways and side roads are gravel. After winter rain we get calls for utes and 4WDs that have slipped into a soft table drain. The long climb up Kalamunda Road also tests cooling systems on hot days, and the curves on the way down see the odd crash, which we handle as accident towing.
Roads and places we cover around Kalamunda
Kalamunda Road is the main link down the scarp, running past High Wycombe towards Perth Airport. Canning Road heads south through the hills towards Lesmurdie and beyond, and Lesmurdie Road gives another route south. Mundaring Weir Road leaves town to the north-east through forest towards the weir, while Railway Road and Haynes Street carry most of the traffic through the town centre. The Bibbulmun Track starts its long run south from Kalamunda, so walkers’ cars are a regular sight here.
Neighbouring suburbs include Gooseberry Hill to the north, Lesmurdie to the south and Forrestfield down on the plain to the west. If a car stuck on a soft bush track needs winching out, our 4WD recovery team is the one to call.

- On a forest road, tell us how far you are from the last intersection, as street numbers can be far apart.
- If you’re on gravel, stop trying to drive out once the wheels start spinning.
- Mobile reception can drop out in the valleys. Once you’ve reached us, stay put so we can find you.
