Towing in Byford: the regular jobs
Byford is in the middle of a big change. New housing estates have spread across what used to be farmland, so there’s constant building traffic and new road layouts that can confuse drivers who haven’t been through for a while. We see plenty of punctures from site debris, vans that won’t start on a building site, and minor crashes at new roundabouts and intersections.
At the same time, Byford is still horse and hobby farm country. Utes and 4WDs get bogged in wet paddocks, older farm vehicles need moving to a mechanic, and floats break down on the way to events. These jobs often call for our 4WD recovery gear as much as a standard tow.
South Western Highway is the main road through town, and it carries traffic from the city out to the South West. Breakdowns and crashes along it are a regular call, especially near the junction with Thomas Road.
Byford’s main roads and where they lead
South Western Highway runs north through Wungong to Armadale and south to Cardup and Mundijong. Thomas Road heads west across the plain to Kwinana and the freeway. Abernethy Road is the local main street, with both shopping centres on it and the railway station close by. Nettleton Road climbs east towards Jarrahdale, and Soldiers Road runs north-south through the older part of town. Up in the hills to the north-east is Bedfordale.
Stuck in Byford? Some quick advice
- In a new estate, the street may not show on older maps. Give us the nearest established road or a landmark like the train station.
- If you’re bogged on acreage, stop and call rather than trying to rock it out.
- On South Western Highway, use the wide verge if there is one, and stand well away from passing trucks.
- Tell us where the vehicle should go, whether that’s home, a mechanic or a farm shed.
