Why people call us in Fremantle
Fremantle is a working port city first, and that shapes a lot of our work. Trucks carrying containers move between the harbour, the rail yards and the industrial suburbs inland, and we’re regularly asked to collect a box and deliver it across Perth. Our container transport jobs here often start with a call from someone who has just bought a container and has no idea how to get it home.
In the city centre, the heritage streets bring their own problems. The West End and the streets around the Markets are tight, with one-way sections and limited kerb space, so a breakdown can block traffic fast. Weekend visitors, festival crowds and late nights on South Terrace mean we also see flat batteries, keys locked in cars and people who’d rather not drive home.
The highways feeding Freo add accident work, particularly where High Street, Stirling Highway and Canning Highway converge on the eastern edge of town.
Main routes in and out of Freo
High Street runs east from the city centre and becomes Leach Highway, the main freight link to the port. Stirling Highway crosses the river into North Fremantle, and Canning Highway begins near the Fremantle Traffic Bridge before heading through East Fremantle towards the city. Hampton Road and South Terrace lead south towards South Fremantle and Cockburn, while Queen Victoria Street links the port end of town with the bridges.
What to do while you wait in Fremantle
- In the West End or near the Markets, tell us the street and the nearest corner. Many lanes look alike.
- If you’re near the port, keep well clear of passing trucks and don’t stand between parked vehicles.
- For a container pickup, have your booking or release paperwork handy.
- After a crash, swap details and take photos before the cars are moved.
