What we’re usually called out for in Helena Valley
The valley is semi-rural in parts, and that shapes most of our work. Large lots, long gravel drives, sheds and paddocks mean callouts are often for a ute, 4WD or farm vehicle that has bogged in soft ground or won’t start in a back shed. After a wet spell the low-lying parts of the valley get boggy, and a vehicle that drove in easily in summer can sink to its axles. That’s where our 4WD recovery crew earns its keep, with winches and recovery gear sized for the job.
The newer estates bring the usual suburban jobs: a flat battery on a cold morning, a family car that needs to go to a mechanic, or a crash on the way out to the main roads. Roe Highway along the western side is the busiest road nearby, and breakdowns there need a quick, careful tow because of the speed and freight traffic.
Roads and places we cover around Helena Valley
Helena Valley Road is the main route through the valley, linking down towards Midland and up towards the hills. Scott Street runs north to Greenmount Hill and Great Eastern Highway, Clayton Road heads towards Bellevue and Midland, and Ridge Hill Road climbs south up to Gooseberry Hill. Roe Highway runs past the western side of the suburb.
To the north are Koongamia and Boya, with Greenmount Hill rising behind them. Darlington sits to the east, further up the valley.
Need a tow in Helena Valley now?
- If you’re bogged, stop driving and don’t let anyone push from behind on soft ground.
- Tell us whether the vehicle is on a sealed road, a gravel drive or in a paddock.
- Turn on a light near your gate at night, as rural numbers can be hard to see.
- On Roe Highway, move fully onto the shoulder and get away from the traffic side.
