What goes wrong in the city centre
Most calls from the Perth CBD fall into a few familiar patterns. A car that has sat all day in a multi-level or underground car park won’t start at knock-off time. A courier van or tradie ute stops dead in a loading zone and has to be moved before the next delivery truck turns up. Or a car breaks down on a clearway during peak hour, where it’s blocking a lane and the clock is ticking.
The freeway network that wraps around the city brings its own jobs. The Mitchell and Kwinana freeways meet near the Narrows, and the Graham Farmer Freeway dives under Northbridge through the tunnel. Merging traffic on those approaches leads to nose-to-tail crashes, which we handle as accident towing and can bill to your insurer.
Streets, ramps and car parks we know
St Georges Terrace, Hay Street, Murray Street and Wellington Street run east to west through the grid, crossed by William Street and Barrack Street. Along the river, Riverside Drive and Mounts Bay Road link Elizabeth Quay with Crawley to the west and East Perth to the east. The Mitchell Freeway runs up the western edge of the city past West Perth, and Wellington Street leads past the train station towards Northbridge.
We work around bus lanes, one-way streets and the tight laneways behind the office towers. For hospital visitors, staff car parks near Royal Perth Hospital are a regular pickup spot. Prestige and low cars from the inner-city apartment buildings go on a tilt tray with soft straps.
Broken down in the CBD? Do this first
- On the freeway or in the tunnel, stay buckled in with hazards on unless you can reach a safe spot behind a barrier.
- In a car park, write down the name, level, bay number and the height limit painted at the entrance.
- On a city street, note the nearest cross street and building, and tell us if it’s a clearway or loading zone.
- If it was a crash, photograph the scene and swap details before anything is moved.
