Caravans that won’t move
A caravan can stop being towable for plenty of reasons: a collapsed wheel bearing, flat tyres after months in storage, a broken coupling, seized electric brakes or a failed breakaway system. Sometimes the van is fine but the tow vehicle isn’t. Either way, you need it moved without making the damage worse.
If you’re on the side of the road, keep the caravan hitched to the car if it’s safe, chock the van’s wheels and put your hazards and warning triangle out. Don’t try to unhitch on a slope or a soft shoulder. Get everyone away from traffic and call us.
Tell us the length, weight and ATM
Caravans range from small pop tops to large tandem axle off road vans, so the details matter. Before we send a truck we’ll ask for:
- Overall length, including the drawbar
- The ATM from the compliance plate, and how loaded it is now (water tanks, gas, gear)
- Single or tandem axle
- Whether the wheels turn and the brakes release
- Any crash or chassis damage
With that information we can confirm the right truck for the job, rather than turning up and having to come back.
Storage, servicing and moves
Not every caravan job is an emergency. We move vans between home and storage yards, to service centres and repairers, to and from sale yards and for people moving house who no longer have a vehicle big enough to tow. If the van is coming out of a tight backyard or a storage facility with narrow aisles, describe the access when you call so we can plan how to get it out.
Damaged caravans after a crash
Caravans are lightly built compared to cars, and after a rollover or a jackknife the walls, floor and chassis can be badly twisted. Loose fittings, gas bottles and water tanks all need to be checked before moving. Turn off the gas at the bottle if you can do it safely. We take care to secure the van so nothing shifts further during the trip, and can take it to your repairer or the insurer’s approved repairer. Our insurance towing page explains how billing your insurer works.
Pricing
Caravan towing costs depend on the distance, the size and weight of the van, whether it rolls and brakes freely, access at both ends and the time of day or urgency. A loaded tandem van out of a tight driveway takes more work than an empty single axle van on a wide street. Call or text 0419 857 070 and we’ll quote the caravan move upfront, with the full price agreed before we touch the van.
Where we work
Caravans and campers get moved right across Perth, whether the van sits in Two Rocks, Secret Harbour, Cottesloe or Mundaring. We regularly work the northern suburbs, the eastern suburbs along the Great Eastern Highway, the southern suburbs, the western suburbs and the south-eastern suburbs along Albany Highway. Regional runs from Perth are also available. See all areas we cover.
