Why prestige and sports cars need extra care
Low front lips, carbon splitters, side skirts, long overhangs and wide alloy wheels all make loading a luxury car different from a standard sedan. A careless approach can crack a bumper, scrape an exhaust or kerb a wheel in seconds. Every car of this type rides on a tilt tray, so it’s carried fully on the tray with no wear on the tyres or driveline and no kilometres added.
Low approach angles
The tray is lowered to its shallowest angle, and the driver checks the clearance at the front and under the middle of the car before winching. Where the angle is still too steep, ramp extensions or timber packers lift the wheels without the body touching. The driver watches from the side as the car comes up, stopping to adjust rather than forcing it.
Soft straps and careful winching
Cars are secured with soft wheel straps over the tyres, not chains or hooks on the chassis. That holds the car by its wheels while the suspension does its job. The winch line goes to the factory tow eye, which on many European cars screws into the front bumper. If you have it, keep it handy for the driver.
Winching is done slowly and evenly. For cars with electric park brakes, air suspension or a locked transmission, we’ll go through how to put it in neutral or service mode before loading. If you have the owner’s manual, keep it nearby.
Classic and collector cars
Older cars often have soft brakes, original paint and trim that marks easily and tyres that haven’t turned in years. We move restoration projects, cars going to shows, cars bought at Pickles, Manheim or Grays and cars heading to or from storage. Tell us if the car rolls, steers and stops, and whether anything is loose or missing.
What to tell us when you call
- Make, model and any modifications (lowered, body kit, aftermarket wheels)
- Whether it runs, rolls and steers
- Ground clearance and anything that hangs low
- Access at both ends, including steep driveways or tight garages
- Where the car is going and when
Pricing
The cost depends on the distance, the type of vehicle, whether it runs, access at both ends and the time of day or urgency. A low car out of a steep driveway in Mosman Park takes more setup than a standard pickup. Call or text 0419 857 070 with the model and ride height, and we’ll confirm a fixed price for the prestige tow before anything is loaded.
