Cars that will not drive themselves
Not every car that needs moving has broken down on the road. Plenty have been sitting for months or years: a project car in the shed, a car that failed and was never fixed, a vehicle left behind in a deceased estate, or a wreck heading to a buyer. They all have one thing in common. They will not drive onto a truck by themselves.
Call or text 0419 857 070 and we’ll arrange the winch and tray for your dead car. This is part of our wider vehicle transport work across Perth.
How we load a car that does not run
We use tilt tray trucks. The tray tilts to the ground and the car is winched up onto it with a cable. Once on, it is strapped down at the wheels and rides fully on the deck. A car that won’t run doesn’t need to roll an inch on the road, so nothing is added to the odometer and the tyres and driveline are spared.
For a car that has been parked a long time, a few things affect loading:
- Seized brakes: wheels that will not turn need more careful winching so the car slides up evenly.
- Flat tyres: we can usually load on flats, but pump them up first if you can, as it makes loading smoother.
- Locked steering: without keys, the steering may be locked and the car harder to guide.
- Missing parts: no engine, no gearbox or no wheels is fine to mention. We just need to know.
Common jobs
- Project cars: bought a restoration or race project and need it home, to the panel shop or to the engine builder.
- Dead cars: a daily driver that has died in the driveway and is going to a mechanic or wrecker.
- Deceased estates: moving a car on behalf of the family or executor to a buyer, auction yard or storage.
- Private sales: you have sold a non running car and the buyer needs it delivered.
- House moves: the car is not roadworthy but has to come with you.
Access at the pickup
Older cars often live in tight spots: a back shed, a narrow side path or a garage behind a gate. A tilt tray needs room to line up and lower the tray. Tell us:
- Where the car is and how far it is from the street.
- Whether there are gates, trees, low eaves or soft ground in the way.
- Whether the car rolls at all, and if the keys are available.
If it is very tight, photos sent by text help us judge it.
Pricing
The price depends on the distance, the vehicle type, the fact that it does not run, access at both ends and timing. Extra winching or handling for seized cars is factored into the access part of the quote. The winching is priced in from the start, so the figure you agree to is the figure you pay, and our best rates guarantee applies. Call or text 0419 857 070.
