Bogged on the sand
Perth’s beaches and coastal tracks are a big part of why people buy 4WDs, but soft sand catches out plenty of drivers. Lancelin, Preston Beach, Yanchep, Two Rocks, Wedge and Guilderton all have stretches where a car can sink quickly, especially in hot, dry sand or on soft tracks between dunes.
If you are stuck, call 0419 857 070. A real person answers 24/7. This work is part of our wider 4WD recovery service.
Stop spinning the wheels
The natural reaction is to keep trying. Do not. Spinning wheels dig holes, and within a few attempts the car can be resting on its chassis or diffs instead of its tyres. That turns a simple recovery into a much harder one.
Instead:
- Stop the engine and get out.
- Look at how deep the wheels are and whether the underside is touching sand.
- Check the tide and how close the water is.
- Call us.
Tide and safety
On beaches, the tide changes everything. A car stuck near the water line can be reached by waves within hours. If the tide is coming in, move yourself and your passengers above the high tide line first. Take phones, water and anything important out of the car.
On hot days, stay in shade, drink water and keep an eye on everyone. A car can be replaced. People cannot.
Tyre pressure
Lowering tyre pressure is one of the best ways to drive on sand, because it widens the footprint and stops the tyres digging in. If you have the gear and know-how, letting some air out may help once the car is recovered. Never drive on bitumen at low pressures. Reinflate first, or have it towed.
Share a GPS pin
Beaches and dune tracks have no street numbers. The quickest way for us to reach you is a GPS pin texted to 0419 857 070. Also tell us:
- Which beach or track, and which access point you used.
- Make and model, and whether it is AWD or 4WD.
- How deep the car is sitting and whether it is near the water.
- Whether any recovery gear has already been used.
How we recover it
Recovery depends on where the car is and how deep it is stuck. Typically, the recovery vehicle stays on firm ground and the car is winched or pulled out with rated gear. Once on firm ground, it can be driven out if it is undamaged, or loaded onto a tilt tray and taken home or to a mechanic. Salt water and sand can cause damage, so if the car has been in the water, get it checked before driving.
Pricing
Beach recovery is priced on distance from Perth, vehicle type, how stuck it is, access to the site, and time of day or urgency. We price the beach recovery before we head out, nothing gets added on the sand, and our best rates guarantee applies. Call or text 0419 857 070.
Where we work
We cover beaches and tracks north and south of Perth, from Two Rocks and Yanchep in the northern suburbs near Clarkson, to Rockingham and the southern suburbs, plus regional runs to spots like Lancelin, Wedge, Guilderton and Preston Beach.
