Car Towed in Perth? What to Do Next

Came back and your car is gone, or a tow truck turned up at your crash before you called one? Here is who to call, where cars usually end up and what your rights are in Perth.

  • Authorised crash tow business #810
  • We bill your insurer directly
  • 10+ trucks on the road

First, work out who towed it

A missing car in Perth has usually gone one of four ways, and each has a different fix.

  • Towed from a CBD clearway, bus lane or no stopping zone. Main Roads WA manages these tow-away zones and takes cars to its compound at 57 John Street, Northbridge. Call Main Roads on 138 138 before you head over. The City of Perth may also issue a fine. See the Main Roads towing page for the zones map.
  • Towed from private property. Shopping centres, apartment blocks and business car parks often have their own towing arrangements. The signs at the entrance should say who to contact.
  • Towed after a crash. If you weren’t the one who arranged the tow, ask the police officer at the scene or check your Authority to Tow paperwork, which names the towing business and where the car went.
  • Left for a long time on a road. Main Roads can remove vehicles left on its roads, store them and dispose of them if no one claims them. Contact Main Roads quickly if you think that has happened.

If none of these fit, the car may have been stolen. Report it to WA Police.

Your rights at a crash scene

The first tow truck to arrive does not get to take your car. You choose who tows it and where it goes. Since 1 July 2026, crash towing in WA can only be done by an authorised business, and the charges in Perth and Peel are capped. Quik Tow & Transport is authorised crash towing business #810. Before your car is moved, you sign an Authority to Tow that lists the costs and the destination, and you keep a copy.

If a truck turns up that you didn’t call, you can say no and phone us on 0419 857 070 instead. If you are insured, we bill your insurer directly for covered claims.

Getting your car out of a compound

Compounds keep limited hours and charge storage daily, so it pays to act fast. Take your licence and proof that the car is yours, and ask what fees are owed before you go. If the car can’t be driven, or you would rather not drive it, we can meet you at the compound and take it home, to your mechanic or to your insurer’s repairer.

Need a tow now?

Whether you are stuck at a crash scene, collecting a car from a yard or just broken down, our tow trucks work around the clock in every Perth suburb. See 24 hour towing, read about accident towing, or call 0419 857 070.

FAQ

Your questions

Who do I call if my car was towed from a Perth CBD clearway?

Call Main Roads WA on 138 138. Cars stopped illegally in CBD clearways, bus lanes and no stopping zones are towed to the Main Roads compound in Northbridge. Check their opening hours before you go, because they can change during events.

Does the first tow truck at a crash get to tow my car?

No. In WA you decide who tows your car and where it goes. Only an authorised crash towing business can tow a crashed car, and you sign an Authority to Tow that shows the costs before it is moved.

Can you collect my car from a towing compound?

Yes. Once you have paid any fees and the compound has released the car, we can collect it and take it home, to your mechanic or to your insurer's repairer. Call 0419 857 070 to book.

My car was towed from a private car park. What now?

Look for signs in the car park, which should name the towing company and how to contact them. If there are none, call the car park operator or building manager, and if you think the car was stolen rather than towed, contact WA Police.
