Why basements make towing harder
Underground car parks under Perth CBD apartments, offices and hotels are built for cars, not trucks. Ceilings are low, ramps are steep and turns are tight. A tilt tray simply will not fit in most of them. Getting a dead car out is mostly about planning the route up to street level.
Call 0419 857 070 and a real person will talk it through. We have 10+ trucks around Perth and send the nearest one once we have a plan.
Getting the car to ground level
There are a few ways to get a car out of a basement, and the right one depends on the car, the ramp and the building:
- Rolling it out: if the car rolls, steers and the handbrake releases, it can sometimes be pushed or guided to the bottom of the ramp.
- Winching up the ramp: the truck parks at the top or on the street, and the car is winched up the ramp on a long cable, then loaded onto the tray.
- Short moves first: in tight car parks, the car may need to be shifted out of its bay before it can line up with the ramp.
If the car will not roll at all (seized brakes, locked steering, flat tyres), tell us. That changes what we need to bring.
Building access
Most residential and office basements are locked. Before the truck arrives, sort out:
- Someone to open the roller door or security gate, or a fob for the driver to use.
- A heads up to the building or strata manager, especially if the truck will block the driveway briefly.
- Any rules about when vehicles can be moved, such as no work during peak entry times.
Let us know the clearance height if it is signed at the entry. It helps us judge what is possible.
What to tell us when you call
- The full address and which entry the car park uses.
- The level and bay number, and how far it is from the ramp.
- Whether the car rolls, steers, and has its keys.
- Where it needs to go: mechanic, home, storage or another address.
Loading once it is out
At street level the car goes onto the tilt tray and rides fully on the deck, with no wheels on the road and no kilometres added. For a car that has failed, see breakdown towing. For a car you are relocating, such as during a house move, see vehicle transport.
