Why unregistered cars need to be carried
Once a car’s rego lapses, it cannot legally be driven on WA roads in the normal way. That catches a lot of people out: you buy a car without rego, let the rego lapse while it sat in the garage, or need to get it inspected before re-licensing. Driving it “just around the corner” can mean a fine, and it is unlikely to be insured.
The simple fix is to carry it. On a tilt tray, the car rides fully on the deck. It is cargo, not a vehicle being driven, so rego is not needed for the trip. Because the car never touches the bitumen, there is no tyre or driveline wear and the odometer stays put.

Getting the timing right
If you have a booked inspection time, tell us when you call. We will plan the pickup so the car arrives with time to spare. If the car needs to stay overnight at a mechanic before the inspection, check that the workshop is happy to hold it.
Keep any paperwork with you or in the car: proof of ownership, any previous rego papers, and the inspection booking details. That way the car and paperwork arrive together.
